about us
Welcome to Wigan Christadelphians, a warm and inclusive community dedicated to living the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our faith unites us in love and service, and together, we strive to make a positive impact in our lives and the world around us.
Nature's Divine Gate

It’s surely inevitable that the character of our creator is shown in His creation. It has been well said that God just loves variety.
Other scriptures speak of looking to creation for guidance:
Rom 1:20 NIV For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
God’s love for us is clear Rom 5:8 NIV But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. In simple terms God’s love as shown by the life of Jesus is unconditional. It is not earned it is free Eph 2:8-9 NIV For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– 9 not by works so that no one can boast.
Jesus used creation to show the love of God his Father.
Mat 6:25-31 NIV “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you–you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
Perhaps Jesus was thinking of some words from the Book of Job
Job 12:7-10 NIV “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; 8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. 9 Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? 10 In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
Space prevents us from considering the rainbow or the hairs on our heads or even the nation of Israel but we can look at ourselves!
But perhaps one of the greatest lessons from creation is a humbling experience. The Psalmist expresses it this way:-
Psa 8:3-6, 9 NIV When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? 5 You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. 6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: … 9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Who hasn’t, we ask, been moved by the beauty of creation and what a beautiful way to create in us a sense of humility? That’s much better than some embarrassing reality about ourselves. Did you know that humility is a character of our God? Perhaps that’s why He likes it as the prophet Micah observed:
Micah 6:8 NIV He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
After all, even the mighty oak tree ‘knows’ how to bend in the wind!
Nature and spirit unite

Jesus is the Word made flesh and through whom God has revealed Himself, His character, His love for all people and His purpose to fill the whole earth with His glory. Jesus is the foundation of all God’s work and in seeing him we can see that we can be like him and at one with his Father if we just allow it:-
1 John 3:2 NIV Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
Jesus used many parables to teach and encourage his listeners. Especially, his parables provide a collection of images to guide us to be encouraged by understanding the character of our creator and the responsibilities expected of a Christian.
Some famous parables:-
The Prodigal Son – Joy that forgiveness brings – Luke 15:11-32
The Good Samaritan – Revealing who are neighbour is – Luke 10:29-37
The Sower – Love of God never fails to bring results – Mat 13:1-23
The Weeds – The patience of God to save – Matt13:24-30
The persistent widow – Encouragement to pray – Luke 18;1-8
The Pharisee and the tax collector – A warning for the religious – Luke 18:9-14
The Unforgiving Servant – Forgive that you might be forgiven – Matt 18;21-35
William Barclay (Theologian) – “..Parables.... an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.”

Creation finds eternal harmony

Without resurrection the Christian promise of eternal life is empty. So said the Apostle Paul
1 Corinthians 15:19 (NIV) If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
It’s a brave assertion and doubtless intended to convey robustly his confidence in the resurrection process. Of course this confidence came from knowing that Jesus was raised from the dead. This he knew from his own first hand encounter with Jesus when he was persecuting the early Christian church.
Resurrection is a reunion with God our creator through Jesus and a promised eternal life in his kingdom.
Jesus’ life and faithfulness has made this possible by showing us clearly the character and love of our creator. The love of God is brought to life through Jesus to show that we too can be changed through resurrection and share in Gods glory.
A selection of verses below highlight the events. surrounding Jesus’ return to set up God’s kingdom and the change believers will undergo.
1 Corinthians 15:21-26 (NIV) 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
1 Corinthians 15:35-44 (NIV) 35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” 36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39 Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor. 42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
1 John 3:2-3 (NIV) 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
Philippians 3:20-21 (NIV) 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Jesus is the cornerstone of God’s plan of Love to share His glory with his creation. A plan that was the basis for our creation and revealed at the very beginning of the Bible.

Sharing the Gospel
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)
